Mesoscale Discussion 367

Mesoscale Discussion 0367 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0614 PM CDT Sun Apr 12 2020 Areas affected...western Arkansas...northwestern Louisiana...northeastern Texas...and far eastern Oklahoma Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 108...111... Valid 122314Z - 130045Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 108, 111 continues. SUMMARY...The threat for mainly hail and wind continues across the discussion area. DISCUSSION...Ongoing storms across WWs 108 and 111 continue in a weakly to moderately unstable environment characterized by 500 J/kg MUCAPE in northwestern Arkansas to 2500 J/kg MUCAPE in northwestern Louisiana. At least weak instability will likely be sustained into the evening as cooling aloft associated with a vigorous mid-level shortwave trough continues eastward across Oklahoma and northern Texas. Furthermore, although low-level shear is weak, fast flow aloft (90+ knots at 500 hPa) is supporting continued organization with cells and linear segments. CAMs support this regime continuing eastward through more of WW 111 over time. Hail and damaging wind gusts are the primary threats with this activity. ..Cook.. 04/12/2020
